Arthur was one of eight sons of William and Emma. Three of his brothers were also in the military: Edwin was in the army, was a German prisoner of war, but survived, Herbert was in the Royal Marines Infantry and survived, and Oscar was in the navy and survived.

Arthur George HOGG, son of William HOGG (c. 1847- ) and Emma CLARKE (c. 1850- ), was born circa 1887 in North Lopham, Norfolk and was baptised on 16 October 1887 in Blo Norton, Norfolk. Arthur died on 8 June 1918. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission grave registration entry for Arthur was ”HOGG, Pte. Arthur, 23572. 6th Bn. Dorsetshire Regt. 8th June, 1918.” (He was formerly Private 33022, Royal Fusiliers.) Arthur is commemorated at Pozieres Memorial - Panel 54 to 56, stone no. 48, B.
